Book Review
Healing Spirits: True Stories from 14
Spiritual Healers by Patricia West-Barker (Editor), Judith
Joslow-Rodewald (Editor), Susan P. Mills (Photographer)

Healing Spirits: True Stories from 14 Spiritual Healers by Judith
Joslow-Rodewald and Patricia West-Barker. The authors, along with photographer,
Susan Mills, spent 3 years traveling across the country interviewing healers to
write Healing Spirits.
The book begins with introductions by the three women sharing the
transformations that they experienced in the creation of the book and the
synchronistic way it came about. This is followed by 14 chapters, each devoted
to a different spiritual healer. Each chapter begins with a written portrait of
the healer -- a description of their impressions as they met each healer, and
some background about the healer. This is followed by the healers' stories of
about their own healing journeys and how they became healers, as well as how
they define and do healing.
The healers' stories are told in their own words, and the healers seem to
come alive on the pages of the book. The authors manage to "stay out of the way"
so that we feel as if we've had an intimate meeting with each healer.
Part of the richness of the book lies in the diversity of healers and styles
that are included. Their stories of healing are inspiring and the healers share
a wealth of insights into the nature of healing. The book affirms the tremendous
potential for healing that lies within everyone, empowering its readers in their
own self-healing journeys. This is a remarkable book that I would recommend to
anyone interested in spiritual healing.
